Gold 'n' White
(to the tune of 'Golden Brown' by The Stranglers)
Gold n white, on the Main Street
Lights are green, people will beep
Man in the front
Woman in the back
Meter is on
Bang! What is that?
(instrumental)
I've been here far too long
People smoke and make the seats pong
Taxi's too old
Passengers too bold
Don't pay the fare
What do I care?
(instrumental)
Every night after the prayer
We sit on the roundabout
Women pass, we stare
Thinking of home
Wives left behind
How lonely I feel
When these thoughts pass my mind
Gold n white, on the Main Street
Lights are green, people will beep
Man in the front
Woman in the back
Meter is on
Bang! What is that?
(instrumental)
I've been here far too long
People smoke and make the seats pong
Taxi's too old
Passengers too bold
Don't pay the fare
What do I care?
(instrumental)
Every night after the prayer
We sit on the roundabout
Women pass, we stare
Thinking of home
Wives left behind
How lonely I feel
When these thoughts pass my mind

Oh god that's LOVELY! So sad and so funny. The "Bang what is that" line had me laughing out loud!
Nice poem, AAT. Wouldn't they be flattered to know there are people who think about them...
very very good and touchy poem!
Hi Ben,
I would avoid the second hand furniture stores as they buy cheap and sell expensive. Cut out the middle man and go straight to the sellers: Look on notice boards at your work, at the hotel health clubs and the Prisunic and Abela supermarkets. That way you'll get a good deal rather than being ripped off at the second hand stores. The prices they offer are really not a lot lower than buying something brand new I've found.
