Daft Mall
Visited Al Jimi Mall yesterday for the first time in ages. This is the place where me and Hub can't help do a 'See you Jimmy' everytime we go there. Stupid, I know but that's my sense of humour.
I knew that they were extending the place but imagine my dismay to find that Al Ain now has yet another Babyshop, Home Centre and Lifestyle. Why? Why?!!! WHY?!!
Why not fill those units with something different like a Boots or a Virgin Megastore or even a branch of Magrudy's?? Oh to have a decent bookshop in Al Ain..you know there are a lot of people that like to read books in this city.

I agree...what about Ace, Plug In's, Debenhams, M & S.....the list can go on!
There's a Radio Shack in Al Ain Mall now. I haven't visited yet in fear of parting with money that should be spent on groceries. I hope the salespeople aren't as pushy as the ones in Dubai.
Talking of salespeople, does anyone else get followed around stores by them or is it just me?
Oh we all get followed. I just don't go back!
How about a mobile phone store? Just kidding, of course.
But that's very interesting, a Radio Shack here in Al Ain! I'll have to check that out. Thanks.
Tandy's! Do you remember that. The original Radio Shack (or is it the other way around?)
There was a survey being carried out at Al Ain Mall: What new things would you like to see in the malls?
Some of my suggestions:
- Art Gallery
- Gym/Fitness club
- Lending Library!
- Small, quality restaurants (in the out of the way corners)
Mrs concurs with the bookshop wish. Adding "Sainsbury's, please!"
I wonder if they took your comments on board..would be nice if they did! I so agree with you about the small out of the way restaurant idea. There's no privacy when you eat in the malls. Nothing worse than whne you're just about to put food in your mouth and there's a tap on your shoulder from someone you don't really want to see!
I think Tandys was a UK company and Radio Shack a US one which bought them all up.
Well, my wife was delighted when she came to Al Ain because of the names: Jimmy, Hilly, etc. Aw Foah!
There's this large store opened next to Al Ain City Centre, called "The Bookshop". Looks like a stationery shop from without, though. (It's been advertised a bit on the Mupi circuit--AACC is actually a branch of Al Maya Lal's; the location is just off Diwan roundabout and towards Jebel R/A, on your right.)
al ain mum
the bookstore near the diwan r/a is a huge stationary shop with arabic books upstairs and some kids books in english, why call yourself the bookstore and not have any english language books!!! what a tease
